"Tune in, turn on, drop out." That phrase rang out in the 1960's as youth's desperate cry of frustration and despair. Denny Stahl knew the despair and pain of drug addiction until he tuned in and was turned on to the solution to life's emptiness: a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. That was in 1969, early in the so-called Jesus Movement among young people throughout the world during the turbulent years of Vietnam and the Hippie sub-culture.
"Where sin abounded, grace overflowed".
However, like so many of the Jesus People, Denny's life was shipwrecked by his own backsliding. "My foolish self-indulgence cost me my marriage, my children, and my career", Denny remembers. "In the midst of my darkest hour, I found myself saying the three words I thought at the time a Christian man should never have to say.
I called a friend, Jon Courson (Pastor of the Applegate Christian Fellowship in Jacksonville, Oregon), and said 'I need help!'".
Jon was instrumental and invaluable in my personal restoration." Denny was ordained as a pastor by ACF in 1985, and served on staff as their Singles Pastor. Denny has served as the senior pastor at Community Bible Church in Yreka, California, Canyonville Bible Church in Canyonville, Oregon, and Deschutes Christian Fellowship in Bend, Oregon.
A talented artist with Maranatha! Music, Denny recorded an original song, "The Son In My Life", on the "Maranatha 2" album, which was #1 on the National Religious Bestsellers list for 18 months in the early seventies.
Denny can also be heard as a soloist on "The Praise Album" and "The Joy Album." Denny has also written songs published in Christian songbooks, and recorded on Appleseed Records.
As a solo artist, Denny has traveled extensively with such musical groups as Love Song, The Way, Mustard Seed Faith, Parable, and others, singing at college, university, and high school campuses, churches, prisons, and large auditoriums. As a pastor, and featured guest speaker, Denny has spoken to many different groups, big and small, young and old, around the world sharing his dramatic personal testimony of God's love, grace, and restorative power.
When asked, Denny says with deep personal conviction, "Jesus Christ is not only the God of my salvation, but the God of my restoration, as well. I am living proof that Jesus Christ delights to welcome back those who have gone astray." Pastor Denny's teaching ministry is available in the Teachings section of our website.
